Mar 29, 2021

In this episode Elizabeth and Anna M. have a conversation with sports dietitian, Leslie Schilling, about food and nutrition for kids & teen athletes, and the role of coaches. We discuss:

  • How parents or caregiver can talk to coaches if they have concerns about nutrition messaging and advice
  • How to identify the kind of advice that is appropriate for a sports coach to give regarding food & fueling
  • Ways to manage body/weight concerns with sports that either have weight-based requirements (e.g. rowing, wrestling and weight lifting) or sports where leanness is praised or favored (e.g. gymnastics, running, dance).
  • Signs can parents be on the lookout for that their child or teen isn’t getting adequate nutrition to fuel their movement
  • The dangers of inadequate nutrition for child and teen athletes
  • Ways we can support our child or teen athletes in their sport and with their nutritional needs
